Our suggestions for top places to visit, which are all within walking distance of Oxford Circus would include:-

Oxford Street

Of course, this has to come at the top, especially if your purpose is to get some serious shopping done.  Book a hotel close to Oxford Circus and you will be perfectly placed to head to the main shopping street first thing in the morning before dropping your purchases back at your hotel and heading out to see some attractions in the afternoon.  Shops on this road include department stores such as John Lewis and Debenhams, high street brands like Gap and Zara and designer outlets too.  No matter what your style or budget, head here and you won’t be disappointed.

The London Palladium

This theatre is just a stone’s throw away from the Oxford Circus tube station and, if you have time to squeeze in a show during your trip, would be the ideal choice especially if your hotel is close to Oxford Circus.  You could take in a matinee or stay for a further night and enjoy an entertaining evening.  Previous shows which have featured at this theatre include The Phantom of the Opera, the King and I and Oliver!

Handel House Museum

If you fancy throwing a little bit of culture into your trip then make sure you add a visit to the Handel House Museum onto your list of things to do.  The museum isn’t overly large but it is a fascinating insight into the life of composer George Frideric Handel who lived in the house for over 30 years of his life.  It is also the place where he wrote some of his most famous work during the 18th century.  In addition to this, the museum runs a full programme of music events; of particular note is the Thursday Live recitals which feature up and coming musicians from the major London music colleges.  This would certainly be a treat if it coincided with your visit.

Further Afield:
British Museum
This free museum is about a 15 minute walk from Oxford Circus and features over 7 million objects from all over the world.  You could easily take up an entire day simply exploring all that the museum has to offer but points of interest include the world-famous collection of Egyptian Mummies, the Rosetta Stone and the Parthenon Sculptures.

Madame Tussauds
Get up close and personal with your favourite celebrities at this well loved attraction.  It is unlikely that you will unaware of Madame Tussauds, and it is home to some of the world’s most recognisable figures include David Beckham, Beyonce and Brad Pitt.  If you have the time it is well worth paying to see the Marvel 4D Experience: an exclusive 4D movie which features Marvel Superheroes battling it out to save London.

Buckingham Palace
Possibly London’s most famous landmark, Buckingham Palace is approximately 20 minutes away from Oxford Circus, but no visit to the capital city would be complete without stopping by and having your photograph taken standing outside the famous wrought iron railings.

Whitehall
If you are in the vicinity, take the time to walk down Whitehall, one of London’s most historic streets which runs from Parliament Square down to Trafalgar Square.  Attractions along this stretch include Number 10 Downing Street and the Cenotaph, where wreaths of poppies are laid each year by Heads of State and army veterans on Remembrance Sunday to commemorate the World Wars.

If none of these attractions take your fancy, then just remember that London is very easy to travel around and if you purchase a day ticket for the tube then you will be able to access any attractions you like throughout the day.  Certainly, it would be a waste to travel all the way to this diverse and historical city without experiencing all that London has to offer and the comprehensive public transport system means that it is very easy to spend the morning shopping on Oxford Street before heading elsewhere.

Whether your interest lies in dining out at one of London’s best restaurants, taking in a theatre show in the West End or celebrity spotting in Notting Hill, you will be able to access it all from a hotel close to Oxford Circus.
