Events near Great Cumberland Place

Great Cumberland Place is an area within Marylebone in London.  It is right in the centre of the capital city within the City of Westminster and is a great place to see many of the interesting attractions and landmarks which London has to offer.  There are also numerous popular events which take place throughout the year in the vicinity of Great Cumberland Place and which would make a pleasant addition to any trip to London, if not the sole purpose of a visit.

Kai Althoff at the Michael Werner Gallery
From the 26th September until the 15th November, visitors to the gallery will be able to see a collection of sculptures, paintings and illustrations by the German artist Kai Althoff.  Internationally renowned, Althoff’s work consists of imaginary worlds and characters he creates to serve as allegories for human emotions and experiences.  His work will take its place alongside numerous other big names at the Michael Werner Gallery which is well known for featuring only a small number of painters, but all of which are significant in the art world.

Winding of the Clocks, Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is a national museum situated inside a historic London town house.  Admission is free and there is much to see and do from the refurbished State Rooms to the collection of art which is one of the best in the world.  Of particular interest, and which takes place only on certain days throughout the year, is the Winding of the Clocks.  You can watch one of the senior Conservators open up some of the many clocks to be found in the Wallace Collection, see their mechanisms and watch as they are wound up.  The tour is free and it is a very special and unique addition to a visit here.

Aside from this event, the Wallace Collections host many events on a regular basis, including Treasure of the Month, Adult Art Classes, Dramatic and Poetic Performances and many talks about international culture and history.

If you fancy yourself a future bestselling novelist, simply want to see your name in print or really have no idea where to start when it comes to putting the thoughts in your head down onto paper, then this event taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October could be just the thing for you.  Hosted at the Victoria, a smart pub on Strathearn Place, you could join writers Emily Barr and Craig Green for a time of inspiration and creativity.  Book a hotel near Great Cumberland Place and you will be well set to grab a seat right at the front of the action.

Wigmore Hall

If classical music is your thing, then check out the programme of events being held at Wigmore Hall this year.  From performances by musicians such as the Grammy-nominated Avi Avital, to name but one, to talks by some of the world’s greatest performers, there is a truly splendid array of choice here.  The only difficulty will be in choosing which performance you travel in to see.
