Buckingham Palace – The Glory of London

The Buckingham Palace which is the official residence of the British royal family has a great history behind it. Every corner of the palace has a story to tell. It’s not just a palace where the monarchs live but also the administrative headquarter of their official activities. And therefore this incredible palace is a major tourist attraction of the iconic city of London. It draws around fifty thousand visitors every day when it’s open for display. But the fact should be noted that general public can tour the palace only in the months of August and September when the queen is not in her residence.

There are many fascinating facts about the Buckingham Palace which not many people are familiar with, such as, it took nine direct hits during the bombings of World War II. During that time King George VI and Queen Elizabeth narrowly escaped from being killed several times. The palace has 775 rooms, 19 state rooms, 52 guest rooms and 92 offices. With sprawling 830,000 square feet floor space, the Buckingham Palace is the largest residential house in London.

It has been decorated with some of the exceptional works of the legendary artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck and Vermeer. Tour of this majestic palace remains on the list of every visitor who steps in London. You can opt for ‘A Royal Day Out’ which includes tour to the State Rooms, Royal Mews and the Queen’s Gallery. Especially the kids would love to inspect the exquisite state coaches and sophisticatedly groomed royal horses housed in the Royal Mews.
