Blue Stockings, at Shakespeare’s Globe

Jessica Swale’s moving yet comical play about four young women’s fight for an education comes to Shakespeare’s Globe in London later this year.

Set in 1896 against the backdrop of women’s suffrage, Blue Stockings tells the story of these women’s struggle for self-determination, as they enter Girton College, the first college at Cambridge University to allow female students. Follow their story as these so-called “blue stockings” fight prejudice and other distractions in an attempt to graduate.

The show runs from August 24 until October 11. There will be a platform discussion providing further insights into the play, on Thursday, September 12, and a post-show Q&A session with actors and some of the other talent involved in the show, on Saturday, September 21.

Tickets prices at Shakespeare’s Globe vary according to location. The cheapest tickets are for standing in the Yard (open air) – but these offer the best view of the stage. There are also restricted view seats in the galleries. More expensive tickets are available for seats with a better view of the stage.

Location: Shakespeare’s Globe is in the Bankside area, on the south bank of the River Thames, close to Southwark Bridge. London Bridge station is a ten-minute walk from the theatre.
