It is located at the southern bank of river Thames opposite of Westminster. The development of Southbank was very slow as consider to that of the Northbank.
It is a district in which there is complete entertainment. The uplift men of the district started in the year of 1917 with the construction of the ‘Country Hall’. At the time of the year 1951 there occurred a festival named as the ‘festival of Britain’ which made the area as a place of arts and entertainment. It is now known as one of the main tourist spot in London .
It is a 2 square mile area in the southern bank of the river Thames. The attractive places of Southbank are The Hayward gallery. It is a beautiful art gallery which was built by Higgs and Hill. This beautiful art gallery was inaugurated in the year 1968.This gallery is managed by the Art council of Great Brittan. There are only two levels in the gallery which is opened to the public. Therefore, another most attractive thing in south bank is the Royal national theater it is one of the most prominent publicly founded arts. In the year of 1988 the permission was given to call the theater as a national royal theater. Then comes another attractive part of Southbank known as ‘IMAX’ which is one of the best motion picture file format .It is also called as the ‘15/70’ films. And the other attractive thing in Southbank is the BFI Southbank also known as the national film theater. In the year 2007 the national theater is known as the BFI Southbank.
